I am a liberal atheist. Those are the things I can control. I was also born a bisexual white male, and I can't control that. I can have a choice in changing my gender, but I'm bigender so I'll deal with it. Today, I will choose why I believe what I believe, and why my views are the way they are.
Earlier in the year, I felt as though I thought I was, unfortunately, a conservative Catholic. I prayed every night, I read the Bible, and I thought that liberals were terrible people. At least, that's what my mom thought. She basically brainwashed me to think that anyone other than football-loving, Catholic, Republican, anti-choice, straight, God-fearing, white, US Cellular using, skinny, home-schooled farmers was a terrible person. That's a lot of terrible people! She has lost so many genuine friendships just because they weren't Packer fans, or just because their wireless carrier was Verizon, or just because they lived in the suburbs. She has no friends except those who think exactly like her, and so she's only exposed to opinions like her own, and she thinks that the whole world is filled with people like her! I must admit that she was one of the main reasons I turned out the way I did.
I honestly knew that I was a liberal atheist. I just didn't want to admit it. I grew up fearing God, and if I did anything to upset him--like denying his existence--I would be sent to eternal damnation. I also thought that liberals were bad, so I didn't want my name associated with such a Satanic group! I've always known that I was bisexual, leaning heavily towards guys, but I'll probably marry a girl to make my mom happy. I was terrified of being who I was because I knew that mom would judge me. I'm still a closet bisexual bigender liberal atheist, and my mom thinks that I'm the opposite of all of those, because that's how I was raised, thus, it would be how I would be all of my life! I grew up thinking that anyone who didn't identify as football-loving, Catholic, Republican, anti-choice, straight, God-fearing, white, US Cellular using, skinny, home-schooled farmers were Satan-worshipers and you could never be anyone except those listed above. She also thinks that men should support the entire family by farming, and the women should all sit at home with the kids, home-school them, cook, clean, and can foods.
However, around March of 2016, I was so confused because I basically identified as everything, so I just took an unbiased approach at life, did my research, and decided on what sexuality/gender I truly felt, which political view would better help society and government, and which religion had the most proof. I made sure to visit all websites from all sides of the spectrum, and to see how people from all sides thought and lived their lives. I not only chose my views based off of what I thought was right, but also what was right. I don't like when people claim that their opinion is the right opinion and all others are wrong, and I also don't like when people will not like people who do that, but will say "well, it's different when it comes to my opinions because they are right." Frankly, I went into a lot of things open-minded and unbiased, to try to figure out who I am as a person, and tried to figure out who was right, and it was atheist liberals. I'm not saying that everyone should be atheist liberals, although it would really help, because it makes life interesting. It's fun to debate Christians or republicans and win, especially when they're college-age or older and you're fourteen. It would take a really dumb liberal or a really dumb atheist to lose at an argument, and a lot of Christians/Republicans will expose those dumb ones and say: "oh, look! This is how all atheists/liberals are! Let's all laugh at how dumb they are! Ha ha ha!" I admit that atheists and liberals will do the same thing, but they have a larger collection of videos and interviews to laugh at. It's wrong, but, then again, so are Christians.
A lot of religious people/Republicans were either brought up that way, was brought up the exact opposite way and decided to rebel against their parents as a teen, is gullible, or easily brainwashed. It's sad, but true. I didn't rebel against my mother just for the thrill of it. In fact, she doesn't even know. It's just because I was so confused about everything, and so I went into politics and religion with an open mind, and chose the religious preference (not a religion) with the most proof, and the political stance that would benefit more than the other, socially, economically, and intellectually.
I say that a lot, that I went into religion/politics and will support the things that were right. I need to make my point clear: I didn't just go to liberal or atheist websites and be "brainwashed" by their "senselessness," nor was I persuaded by anyone to think the way I do. I was openminded and greeted all stances and opinions with open arms. I did my research, and figured out which stance would be the most beneficial in the world so that I could help the world develop and progress just by supporting the right things. I'm not saying that Christians are bad, but, I'm just saying that atheists can do the same good things that Christians do, like helping the poor, building hospitals, etc. And nearly everything good that Republicans have done, Democrats have done it, too.
I don't want anyone to think that I'm shoving my opinions down their throats. I'm just saying why I believe what I believe, support my reasons with facts, and to answer people who ask: "OMG how can you be atheist you stupid shit" and "lol why u a liberal you must be so stupid 😂." Actual questions, by the way. Please, if you choose to comment, be respectful, because I try my hardest to be respectful towards everyone, no matter how delusional they are.
