I am not at all a very science-y person, but I do care about scientific progression in today's world. Science will never stop. People will always discover new things, new species, and proposing new theories. Humanity will never know everything, but I figure that they can come pretty close.
Religion does not help science at all. Sure, there are Christian scientists, and they can make crucial discoveries. But, religion--Christianity in particular--delays progression. When Christian scientists discover something that they cannot explain, instead of trying to figure it out, they just attribute it to God's majesty and wonder. Many things have been explained, but Christians will blow it off and say that it's just a theory. I am not saying at all that scientists can't be religious, as I said, there are Christian scientists, but I'm just saying, based off of the ridiculous Catholic science textbooks I have read, they would never really explain why something happened. They just say that it proves God's existence because of how they don't know how it happened. They will also attribute our "perfect" world as proof of his existence, and when that "perfection" is explained by evolution, they just call it a theory and dismiss it.
Christians also would persecute anyone who made scientific discoveries that didn't fit with what the Bible taught, such as Copernicus, Galileo, Descartes, Newton, Halley, Darwin, Hubble, and more. Those scientists are some of the best scientists in history, but, unfortunately, since their discoveries, theories, or thoughts did not fit with the Bible, their advances were thought of as blasphemy. Imagine if atheists ruled the world and would rule out the Bible as blasphemy! Christians need to realize that they are barely being persecuted, and when they "are," it's just someone telling them to stop persecuting. Here is a link to a Wikipedia article about that. Christianity attempts to rule the world, because they think that they are the best kind of people, thus, they are always right, and any opposing argument is just someone persecuting their right to persecute.
