Writing Fiction

I write stories. They're not always the best of stories, but they're stories nevertheless. I have never completed an actual novel, but I've written dozens of short stories, many of which were lost when a previous computer stopped working. Most of them were primarily horror stories with lots of violence and gore, and a few were sci-fi/fantasies. I've forgotten about the majority of them and what they were about already, but that's okay. I never write down my story ideas, because, as Stephen King once said, the good ones will always stick with you in your head and the bad ones will just slowly filter out. Perhaps a story will sound good at first, and you start writing it ASAP, and it ends up being a disaster of fictional proportions.
I'm also terrified of plot-stealing. I will literally stop writing a story and delete it all if I hear that it was too similar to an already published work. There's been many times where I have a story in my head, and my heart shatters when I hear a story with a near-exact plot and/or concept. One song I wrote when I was, like, ten, had almost the same tune to the popular Taylor Swift song Wildest Dreams. My song was titled Diamond Skies, and I considered it to be one of my best songs I had ever written. Then I heard the Swift song, and my heart dropped and that's why I don't really like that song. I wrote the song long before Taylor Swift wrote hers, and obviously, she didn't break into my bedroom and steal the sheet music either. It was a mere coincidence, but it made me stop writing music. I still write music, just not with lyrics. But, back to what I was saying, I'm completely paranoid about idea stealing. I know that a large sum of the bestselling books are technically influenced greatly by previously written works, if not scene-by-scene ripoffs. I mean, the The Mortal Instruments series is basically a ripoff of the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series, which was a ripoff of the Harry Potter series, which was a ripoff of Star Wars, among many others, which was a ripoff of the Japanese TV show, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. You can't even really say that they were just heavily influenced, either, because a lot of them follow the same basic blot. Someone finds out that they are something (whether it be a shadowhunter, demigod, or wizard), makes new friends, and fights an evil bad guy. There's also more similarities, but I won't go into details. If you wish to read some of my fiction, just contact me and I'll send you a link. I don't want to post the links here for the world to see, as I am pretty protective of my stories. I really haven't been writing as much as I'd like to. I've never finished a single draft of a novel in my life, and I am currently working on two different projects. One is a sci-fi/fantasy/adventure type thingy, and the other one is a contemporary. If you're interested, again, just contact me. :)
